Women in Enterprise: Ashford Mumpreneurs – Chloe Allen-Gausden

This month we talked to Ashford Mumpreneur, Chloe Allen-Gausden, owner of Boo’s Bakes…watch out for her competition prize in week 10 of our Countdown to Christmas Competitions for a tasty treat in time for the big day!

My name is Chloe and I am the owner and cake designer behind Boo’s Bakes. I create tasty bespoke cakes for all your celebrations. My story started with making my son’s 1st birthday cake. From then on I was hooked. I spent the next 7 years training and perfecting my technique and took Boo’s Bakes professional in July 2017. I’m really enjoying my business and love meeting and interacting with my clients.

1. What made you start up as a Mumpreneur?

Like most mums I took a break from my career to concentrate on having my children. I was lucky that I had the option where I could do that. I knew I didn’t want to go back to the 9 to 5 and decided my best option was to become my own boss.

2. What have you most enjoyed about being a Mumpreneur so far?

The flexibility it allows me to work around my family life, school pick ups, school holidays etc…

3. What is the main challenge you’ve faced as a Mumpreneur?

Keeping my work and family life separate. Working from home it is hard to switch off as you are always technically at work.

4. What, if anything, would you have done differently?

I don’t think I would change anything. I waited a long time to start my business. I wanted to make sure I was ready and had everything In place.

5. What key piece of advice would you give to anyone thinking of taking the plunge?

Just do it! You won’t know until you try and it could be the best decision you ever made.

6. Is there anything else you’d like to add?

‘You can’t buy happiness, but you can buy cake & that’s kinda the same thing’
